Restorative Dentistry in Mississauga
At Bristol Dental Clinic, we understand the importance of restoring both the function and appearance of your smile. Our restorative dentistry in Mississauga is designed to repair damaged, decayed, or missing teeth, ensuring long-term oral health and renewed confidence.
Whether you’re dealing with chipped teeth, cavities, or gaps, our expert team is dedicated to providing personalized solutions that improve your bite, preserve tooth alignment, and restore your smile’s natural beauty. By addressing these issues promptly, we help you maintain optimal dental health and enhance your overall quality of life.
Importance of Restorative Dentistry
Missing and decayed teeth adversely affect an individual’s self-esteem, confidence, appearance, and overall health. Fixing or replacing decayed teeth assists patients in maintaining proper oral health by reducing plaque. Likewise, filling in missing teeth is essential to preserving tooth alignment.
Replacing absent teeth reduces pressure on the mouth when eating and prevents teeth from migrating into vacant spots. The more teeth you have, the easier chewing becomes, and it can reduce plaque build-up on natural teeth.
Common Restorative Procedures
Our dentists use a range of restorative procedures to treat decayed or missing teeth.
Fillings
Bristol Dental Clinic uses tooth-coloured composite or amalgam fillings (silver) to repair cavities and cracked or damaged teeth. The advantage of composite fillings is that no one can tell your teeth have been repaired when you smile, as they look completely natural.
Composite and amalgam fillings are strong and can withstand the moderate pressure associated with chewing. Furthermore, composite fillings can be placed on all teeth, front and back.
Crowns
Crowns restore broken, weak, decayed, or worn-down teeth. They also cover teeth after root canals and dental implants. A crown consists of metal, porcelain, and resin. If properly cared for, it can last 5–15 years.
Crowns take porcelain caps and put them over the original teeth to restore your teeth’s appearance and function. They have several applications, including covering dental implants, attaching bridges, and preventing the worsening of cracked teeth.
Types of Crowns include:
- Metal (fold, nickel, palladium, and chromium): These crowns rarely break or chip. They are the longest-lasting and require little enamel removal.
- Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM): PFM combines natural-looking porcelain with the durability of metal. They match your teeth’s natural shade.
- Pressed Ceramic: Pressed ceramic crowns contain a more rigid inner core. The difference between pressed ceramic and PFM is that pressed ceramic uses a ceramic core instead of metal.
- All Ceramic/Porcelain Crowns: These crowns mimic your tooth’s natural appearance closer than other crown types. They provide the perfect solution for those allergic to metal.
Bridges and Implants
Bridges provide natural-looking tooth replacements. They are either attached to dental implants or natural teeth to replace missing sections of teeth. The customized aspects of bridges make them hardly noticeable and assist in restoring your teeth’s natural contour.
Advanced Restorative Techniques
Several methods of restoration are available to restore a healthy smile within months. Some procedures focus on your appearance, while others fix biting issues.
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays use tooth-coloured porcelain fillings to fix cavities. Our dentists use them when a standard filling cannot restore extensive tooth damage. Inlays and onlays are customized in a dental lab. Once completed, we permanently cement them to your teeth in a single piece.
Pin Retained Restorations, Post and Core Restorations
Dental implants provide roots for missing teeth and are surgically placed in the jawbone. The titanium found in implants fuse to the jawbone, preventing slippage and bone damage. They will not make a noise like dentures or bridges might, and the materials resist decay, unlike teeth in a bridge can.
Veneers and Componeers, Diastema Closures
Veneers use thin shells to cover the front of decayed, crooked, or discoloured teeth. They help hide craze lines, minor cracks, and tooth discolouration and correct small misalignments or spaces.
Componeers are same-day veneers. They are fitted and placed in your mouth the same day without extended lab time. They are more cost-effective and faster than veneers. Replacements are inexpensive and easy to do.
Distema closures use removable appliances, brackets or a clear matrix to reposition teeth to close gaps.
