Crown and bridge

refers to the restoration of teeth that have been damaged, decayed or lost. A Crown refers to the restoration of a single tooth. A Bridge refers to one or more artificial teeth on a metal framework used to replace one or more missing teeth.

Crown – Porcelain:

A porcelain crown is used on a tooth that has become fragile through decay or recurrent fillings. Porcelain is usually used for anterior (front) teeth for the most natural appearance.

Crown – Veneer (porcelain fused to metal):

Veneer crowns are most often used on posterior (back) teeth and are stronger than porcelain. The veneer crown is used on a tooth that has been weakened through decay or injury.

Crown – Three Quarter:

A ¾ crown is used when part of the natural tooth enamel is still healthy. Only ¾ of the tooth needs to be restored.

Fixed Bridge:

A fixed bridge is used when a tooth is missing between neighbouring teeth. The adjoining teeth must be healthy with good bone and gum support. A fixed bridge is made at a lab and is cemented onto the adjoining teeth with the gap being filled by an artificial tooth attached by crowns to the patient’s natural teeth.

Bonded Bridge;

A bonded bridge is used when a tooth is missing between neighbouring teeth. It consists of one or more artificial teeth on a metal framework, bonded in place. The bonded bridge is secured by metal clasps that are bonded to the anchor teeth.

Advantages of Crowns & Bridges:
